Congratulations to the winners of the 2019 Queensland School Library Week competition!

  • Primary School Artwork Prep-Year 2: Rafaella / Year 2 from The Glennie School

    • Judge’s Feedback: This is a colourful and quirky characterisation with an expressive quality that conveys a sense of motion. The application shows a big effort in completing the background - well done!

  • Primary School Artwork Year 3-6: Dior / Year 5 from A.B. Paterson

    • Judge’s Feedback: This is a lively composition with a variety of colour and shape - very eye-catching! The application is refined and overall this work is very well resolved.

  • Secondary School Photo Shoot: Breanna / Year 7 and Ivy / Year 11 from Wellington Point State High School

    • Judge’s Feedback: This is a simple yet very thoughtful and imaginative interpretation of the topic. It is symbolic yet direct in its meaning. Excellent use of the camera with minimal resources.

Our winners will receive a $50 book voucher for the student/s and a $100 book voucher for the school. All entrants will receive a certificate of appreciation.

Thank you to everyone who entered the 2019 Queensland School Library Week competition. We will announce the theme and dates for the 2020 QSLWeek in term 4.

Queensland School Library Week

Queensland school libraries positively influence the learning outcomes of students through teaching multiple literacies and encouraging a lifelong love of learning and reading.  In 2018, QSLA introduced the inaugural Queensland School Library Week (QSLW) to highlight the important work of school libraries. QSLW is celebrated in the first week of March each year. It  provides us with an opportunity to showcase the excellent work of all qualified teacher-librarians and library staff around Queensland.

 QSLW 2019

This year, Qld School Library Week will be celebrated from Monday 4th - Friday 8th March. Our theme is School Libraries Create Connections - focusing on the many connections between students and the world that are facilitated by the school library.

Qualified teacher-librarians connect students with digital literacy skills, teachers with curriculum resources, and foster a reading culture at their school that connects students to the wider world.

Schools can become involved by promoting Queensland School Library Week and encouraging students to participate in the Primary and Secondary art  competitions.  Winners will each receive a $50 book voucher and their school will receive a $100 book voucher.

Entries will be accepted from Monday 4th March until Friday 15th March. Schools will be notified of winning students’ names via email.

The primary competition has two categories, Prep - Year 2 and Year 3 - Year 6.

Primary students will draw their favourite character from a book on an A4 sheet.

Each school may submit one entry for each category by scanning the entry and emailing it to the following address: qslw@qsla.org.au

Secondary Competition

Secondary students (Year 7 - Year 12) are to take a photo inspired by the theme School Libraries Create Connections.

Each school may submit one secondary school entry by scanning the entry and emailing it to the following address: qslw@qsla.org.au

Students are encouraged to be as creative as possible to highlight the work of their school library.
